Helpful Tips For Your Trip To Thailand

Hey there lovelies! Summer is almost here so I’m sure that many of you are starting to make your travel plans! Whether you are staying local or traveling out of the country, planning a trip is not always easy. There is so much to take into consideration when making an itinerary, such as what places are a must-see and what authentic food you need to try before coming back home. I recently traveled to Thailand this past December through January with my family and I wanted to recap Day 1 of our trip to share my tips, tricks, and ideas of sights to visit to help make your planning a little bit easier!

Recap of the Day

We landed in Bangkok and hit the ground running by heading over to the Siam Paragon. It is the largest shopping mall in Thailand. It was such a fun place, complete with karaoke spots, designer stores, a gym, a movie theater and more! This mall has ten floors. Yes, 10 floors! It is an insanely huge mall. It is definitely an amazing place to visit because not only are there so many new stores to check out, but there are a bunch of fun activities to try as well!

My girls had a blast singing and dancing along with a karaoke machine they found set up in the mall! Then, of course we had to go get our nails done so we could have a fun mani during the trip! We also checked out a few of the retail stores just to see what items we could find. Back home in the U.S. we can get most things from commonly known stores, but in Thailand we were specifically on the search for elephant pants. But, beware! The U.S. brands are way more expensive in Thailand than back home, so keep that in mind when you go shopping because some things you are better off just getting from home.

From there we headed over to an outdoor food market. There was a stall that had so many dried fruits to choose from, including papaya and kiwi, which you don’t often see. There was also a stall with mango and sticky rice which is an authentic Thai dish. It is made from mango, rice, and coconut milk. Doesn’t it sound so good? There were so many delicious looking food items to choose from. It was fun to see the different types of dishes made with all the unique combinations of flavors and ingredients. The variety of things to choose from was amazing! We ended up grabbing some cold drinks to keep us hydrated. I bought myself a bottle of fresh pomegranate juice and it was so refreshing! It was a perfect midday pick-me-up to keep us going while the sun was beaming down on us.

Just walking around on the streets, there are so many sights to see. There are even little prayer spots set up where pedestrians can stop and take a moment which I think is so sweet. And, if you do not feel like walking, you can take a tuk-tuk, which is like a taxi but more similar to a rickshaw. It’s an open air vehicle driven by one person so you can still take in all the sights and fresh air as you drive around the city.

We headed over to a wholesale marketplace and there were so many different types of products you could buy! Literally everything from clothes, shoes, jewelry, accessories, snacks, and even knock-off designer purses! It was a really cool place to visit but I’ll warn you, it can be overwhelming because of how many other people are walking around too. It is definitely a crowded location because everyone wants those deals! Make sure to keep an eye on your group if you aren’t traveling alone!

No Snow This Holiday

It was hot! Even though we visited during December and January, it was very hot during the day. The temperature was reaching up to 90°F and it was very sunny on most days during our trip. A lot of the locals dressed in light, airy material to keep cool during the day. So, if you are planning to visit Thailand during the summer, I would suggest packing light, breathable outfits to make sure you are comfortable as you walk around. It is never fun to try and explore while feeling uncomfortable because of the heat!

Dress Code For The Temples

If you are planning to visit a temple while in Thailand, which you absolutely should, you have to cover your shoulders and knees. This is a dress code protocol that has to be followed by anyone who goes into a temple. However, with the heat, it can be a challenge to find the right outfit to wear that keeps you comfortable and also follows the rules. My suggestion would be to dress in layers or keep a change of outfit so you can stay cool while exploring but change into something more appropriate for the temples. I kept a bag with me which I used to store a longer dress and a pashmina to wrap around my arms so I could just change when I needed to.

That’s A Wrap On The First Day
